It's strange that the term popmusic is used for 'popmusic'. 'Pop" stands for 'popular' and there os a lot of popmusic which isn't popular at all. But there's also a lot of popular music which will never be called popmusic. André Rieu is very popular but he absolutely doens't make popmusic (and I'm glad about it because otherwise I wouldn't listen to any popmusic anymore). There will probably be a lot of people who wouldn't call Pale Young Gentlemen real popmusic, but I suppose it is. Maybe just, but still.
Pale Young Gentlemen was founded in 2004 by the brothers Michael and Matt Reisenauer and their friend Brett Randall. The band from Madison, Wisconsin is completed by some strings. After some personnel changes this are Beth Morgan, Gwen Miller, Derek Powell and Matt Pickart. With these musicians in your line-up you're garanteed to make a special sound. Somewhere I read the description 'Randy Newman meets Jacques Brel', but there's more. It's also sounds like cabaret and a little playful. Just very fine music and you can hear it on the selftitled debut album from Pale Young Gentlemen from which you can hear and download some tracks here.
