Ladyhawk

Ladyhawk It won't be a surprise to anyone that most bands I write about are from the United States. It's a large country with a lot of bands and it's the birth country of rock and roll. But you can't say that the Americans are the only ones who can make good rockmusic. In the last week, for instance, I've reviewed several Canadian bands (they are also Americans of course) and today I have another one: Ladyhawk from Vancouver. Duffy Driediger, Darcy Hancock, Sean Hawryluk and Ryan Peters debuted in 2006 on Jagjaguwar with their self-titled first record. Last May Ladyhawk released the very nice 12" "Fight for Anarchy" and now there is Shots". They have recorded the songs for this album in two weeks time in a abandoned farm house in Kelowna, BC, they town where they grew up. This old house had something spooky about it and the winter made the atmosphere also a lot darker. Most of the eight songs have a title which could come from a horror movie. What do you think of "Fear", "Corpse Paint", "Faces of Death" and "Ghost Blues". Ladyhawk calls this album their 'night album'. But it no spooky music, just listen to the track below.
