Some popgroups are consits of childhood friends and these bands usually stay together for a long time. Of course U2 and R.E.M. are two nice examples. But most bands are formed after a chance meeting of two or more musicians who are searching for a new challenge. The band I reviewed yesterday was one example and Hunters, Run!, the band from today, is another. At the eind of 2004 Larry Hess met Nelson Colon in a stripclub in New York City. Larry was searching for a new band after his last band The Feud disbanded and Nelson owned a studio in Brooklyn. The two of them recorded four songs on which they both played all instruments. After that they both agreed that they needed a live-band. Guitarist Steve Shodin was recruited, Larry's childhood friend and filmmaker Dan Fodera became the bass player and finally multi-instrumentalist Doug Fallone was added to the line-up. Hunters, Run! was born. Their debut album “Broken Sounds” was released in 2006 and soon after that the band left for an extended tour. One year ago they left for Nashville to record their second album with Will Walker. The recording sessions were pretty intense and one of the consequences was the departure of Steve Shodin. The songs were finished in New York with engineer Andrew Watson. When they finally had finished the album “Forgotten Souvenirs of the Modern Age”, they also found a new guitar player in ex-The Feud and art collector The Bone. This new CD will be released on January 22 on their own label Battle Standard Recordings. The beautiful music of Hunters, Run! reminds me of Hüsker Dü and just this a an excellent influence.
