The Vandelles

Vandelles1It is over twenty years ago that the music world was wakened by the Scottish brothers William en Jim Reid also known as The Jesus and Mary Chain. Their debut album "Psychocandy" was praised by the music press and as far as I'm concerned justly. Beautiful melodies with a lot of feedback and echo. A successful album often means that a lot bands are influenced by such record. Of course the followers are not always very effective but sometimes you'll hear a band who is influenced the right way.   The Vandelles from New York are such a ban. Jason Schwartz (guitar, vocals), Dave Herbert (guitar, drum machine), Suzanne Pagliorola (drums, percussion, drum machine) and Lisha Nadkarni (bass, vocals) are The Vandelles and this band is formed as a merger of two vocal groups The Mercenary Gang and Del Black Aloha. Their psychedelic garage rock is not just influenced by TJ&MC but also by the music of The Ramones, Link Wray, The Ronettes and others. Their songs are also made of excellent melodies wrapped in feedback, echo and noise. But it's absolutely beautiful noise and you can hear it on their self-titled EP which was released last October by Safranin Sound. I'd missed this debut from The Vandelles then, but I thought that I should give them some attention. And that's what I've just done.
