Music is sound. That's obvious. But not all sound is music, of course. However, some musicians use ordinary sounds to make music and sometimes I even like it. Several post-rock bands like Godspeed You! Black Emperor and Valley of the Giants can produce minutes of music with minimal sounds. Not every reader of this blog will appreciate this kind of music, but there are moments that I like to listen to it. On dark autumn nights, for instance. Autistici also make this kind of minimal ambient music.
I wasn't able to find a lot of information about Autistici. I don't even know if it's a band or just one musician. They (let's call them so) are from Sheffield, England and they are releasing the CD "Volume Objects" on the American label 12K this month. A small part of their bio: 'Autistici creates audio narratives aimed at exploring the interchange between sound and space. Space in this context also includes the space within the listener’s head.' Autistici have participated in several projects over the last few years. One of them is "Hippocams Ruins Pet Sounds" on which 13 'remixers' have worked on the masterpiece of The Beach Boys. It doesn't all sound perfect, but some of the songs on this free downloadable album are pretty nice. The song by Autistics is one of them and I also like the song they made for "Vibrating Portraits" very much.
