Every lover of indie music will know how important Swedish bands and songwriters are. For some reason we get a lot of great music of independent bands from Sweden. There are even some music blogs who only write about music from the land of Abba and blogs like mine also often tell you how great Swedish popmusic is. And I'm doing it again now. The name of Kate Tucker's band is not really an homage to Swedish music but maybe it is.
Kate Tucker started as 'girl with guitar' in Ohio and from there she moved to Seattle. Together with Nic Danielson and Ryan Hadlock she produced her debut EP "Eros Turannos" in 2005. There are a lot of people in the neighborhood Ballard, Seattle who descend from Swedes and that's where she met the sons of Swedes or BJ Myers, Cameron Herrington and Mark Isakson (the last two are really Swedisg). Kate Tucker and the Sons of Sweden have released their first full-length on Red Valise two weeks ago. The music on this CD doesn't sound much like Swedish popmusic. In stead, you can hear influences of Hope Sandoval (from Mazzy Star), Cat Power and Beth Orton while you can also taste an atmosphere like from Innocence Mission. Just listen to the beautiful first song "The Hours". On the last song "In the End" Kate is accompanied by Damien Jurado and this is truly a piece of Americana.
