This is the perfect weekend to relax. Or to chill out. These English words are very common in Dutch although we have our own words to describe the same thing. It doesn't matter to me if you take it easy. In 1984 I bought "Eden" the debut album by Everything But the Girl. This was not the kind of music I listened to back then, but I happened to like this one. I've bought a lot of records and CDs since those days and I must admit that I have just a few albums with similar music. But sometimes that's exactly the kind of music I want to listen to and on such a moment I find Lovespirals. Coincidence, who will know?
Multi-instrumentalist Ryan Lum and singer Anji Bee from Long Beach, California are Lovespirals and this musical duo is a follow-up to Ryan's former band Love Spirals Downwards. This band existed during almost the complete nineties and is in fact continued by Lovespirals. The music is just as dreamu, but LSD (?) sounds a bit more shoegaze and the music of Ryan and Anji has more jazz, blues and Americana influences. They just have released their third album "Long Way from Home" on their own Chillcuts label. By the way, you can go to Anji Bee's website for podcasts with chill out music, the so-called 'chillcasts'. The contemporary version of Candlelight, a Dutch radio show from the seventies, without the poems and with the sensual voice of Anji.
