Music can partly define my mood. Sometimes I don't want to listen to arty and complicated music and I only want to hear happy and sweet music. At such times I like to listen to a CD of The Mamas and Papas or Belle and Sebastian. On that occasion I want to hear a band with a female singer with a sultry and sweet voice. If you also like this kind of music, you'll have to listen to The Owls.
Two men and two women from Minneapolis, Minnesota in the north of the US. The names of The Owls are Maria May, Allison LaBonne, Brian Tighe and John Jerry and they debuted in 2004 with the 8-song-EP "Our Hopes and Dreams" which was released by Magic Marker Records. The most remarkable song of this record is the dreamy "Air". This is the kind of song of which you'll wonder where you've heard it before. There are also some of those tunes on the new CD "Daughters and Suns". First "Peppermint Patty" which you can download for free here, but also "The Lucky Ones", "The Way On" and "All Those in Favor". You can hear some other tracks of this new CD when you go to the MySpace-page of The Owls. This is not the kind of music you could listen to all day. It would get boring, but it's the perfect music for a Sunday in the autumn like today.
