A few decades ago there were talent shows and open mic evenings. Every amateur singer or band could perform on such a show. If you would win, you could sometimes earn a record deal. Your single could become a hit if you were lucky after that and then you could become a star. Nowadays we have shows like Idols and talent isn't that important anymore. It's about how you come across on the television. You're surrounded by a lot of coaches and they have the talent. The talent to make a star of almost everybody. I'm glad that there are still some musicians who reach the top only by way of their own talent. This happened with Keane some years ago. They were a bit of a hype, but they also made very fetching music. I had to think about them when I heard the music from Siberian.
Siberian is a band from Seattle and at the start in 2004 the band was formed by Finn Parnell and Colin Wolberg with a changing group of musicians. Later the band was extended with Zach Tillman and Aaron Benson and I think they are with five at the time. The fifth member is called Adam, but I haven't found his last name yet. The debut album "With Me" from Siberian will be released with Sonic Boom Recordings tomorrow. It's a CD filled with very appealing indie pop. The opener "Belgian Beer and Catholic Girls" is an excellent start and this continues throughout the whole album. The short and acoustic song "Georg Bendemann" is the resting point of the CD. Watch it: don't confuse Siberian with the Swedish band Sibiria.
