Efterklang

Efterklang by Benjamin Kürstein

A few days ago I wrote about the fact that Scandinavian bands make a lot of good (indie) music and I proved this by writing about Swedish bands two days in a row. I suppose there's something in the Swedish water because there are relatively more good bands in Sweden than in, let's say, Hongary or Spain. But Scandinavia is bigger than just Sweden. Today's band is, for instance, from Denmark. The name is Efterklang en they are from Copenhagen.

The core of the band is formed by Mads Brauer, Casper Clausen, Thomas Husmer, Rune Mølgaard and Rasmus Stolberg. They play together since 2001. But Efterklang is in fact a lot bigger. These five musicians are companioned both live and in the studio by several other musicians and other artists, among which is also the filmmaker Karim Ghahwagi who has made a few videos for the band. You can see some of the videos on the MySpace-page from the band.

The music of Efterklang is a lot less 'poppier' and more experimental than the music of a lot of the indie bands from Sweden. For instance, they use a much larger arsenal of instruments and voices.

"Parades" is the second album after "Tripper" from 2004. Between both albums they have also released some EPs and the third "Under Giant Trees" was released about six months ago. All CDs by Efterklang are released on their own label Rumraket and on this label they also release records by other bands like Slaraffenland who are also from Copenhagen.
