Do-It-Yourself is not just for those men (and women) who are always working in and around the house. It's also a expression used in the world of music. D.I.Y. musicians don't wait with recording songs until they have saved up enough money to rent a recording studio. They have some recording equipment in their living room or bedroom and they record songs whenever they want to. Sometimes by themselves, sometimes with the help of some friends. Most of the times you can hear that the songs are not recorded in a expensive and professional studio, but the songs sound very pure. This can also be said about the songs of Benji Cossa.Benji Cossa from Brooklyn, New York has been recording his songs on his 4-track recorder since 1995. Some of these songs were released on cassette and 7-inch, and his first album was released in 2005. "Benji Cossa's Vault, Vol. 1" was a collection of songs he had recorded between 1995 and 2000. The album was released by Magic Marker Records. In the summer of 2007 Benji Cossa released his first album with new songs verscheen "Between the Blue and the Green" on Serious Business Records and this same label will release his second compilation in a few weeks with the title "Benji Cossa's Vault Volume II: Jewels and Gems". The nineteen songs on this album are all from the period of 2000-20003. Beautiful lo-fi popsongs which sometimes remind me of George Harrison, and I suppose this has something to do with Benji's voice.
