HIJK

The dark month of December has started and although I don't hate fall or winter weather, it's not my favourite month of the year. In three weeks I have Christmas vacation and that's good, but I don't like Christmas. I do like the candles and little lights, but that has nothing to do with Christmas. Also hear in the south of the Netherlands you'll see more and more 'American Christmas decorations', I mean the over the top decoration of the outside of the house. That's ugly! But the worst thing comes at the end of the month: the fireworks on New Year's Eve. I'm not afraid of fireworks, but I hate the sound. I like other sounds, like good indie music. From HIJK for instance. This trio is from Oakland, California and until last year they were known as Hijack The Disco, but the band Panic! At the Disco forced them to find another name. So, this new name is HIJK and I don't think it means anything. Just four successively letters from the alphabet. The band is formed by singer and guitarist David Tsui, singer, bassist and keyboard player Michael Mahony and drummer Trevor Wencl. These men have been working together since 2003. After two demos, they have finally made their debut album "The Pen and the Letter" which is self-released. Maybe HIJK doesn't make very spectacular music but it's no problem to promote ordinary, nice popmusic from time to time, isn't it.
