I Heart Lung

"My search for indie music..." isn't always easy. It takes me several hours every week to find at least five interesting CDs or bands. For almost two years now. That's why I decided to take it at bit easy this weekend. Today and tomorrow I'll be writing about the music of musician, producer, writer, husband and father Chris Schlarb from Long Beach, California.

Chris is, amongst others, founder of the  Sounds Are Active label and musician and producer of bands like Create (!) and I Heart Lung. He also made music for a art work from artists duo Megan en Murray McMillan. The music of these band or projects is a mixture of jazz, postrock, ambient with a lot of improvisation and at some moments rather expirmental. The last CD of I Heart Lung is "Between Them A Forest Grew, Trackless and Quiet", a collection of live recordings by Chris and Tom Steck together with saxofonist Peter Chan. These recordings date from the years 2004 until 2007 and on this CD are also some songs which are from the debut album from I Heart Lung "Blood & Light". The third song you'll find below is one of the tracks from the EP "I Heart Christmas". The original theme of this silly Christmas song can only be recognised after listening very carefully.
