June Madrona

JuneMadrona by Grace Glaittli

This last week of the year is not a week with a lot of new releases. That's why it's also hard to find a nice indie band with a new record to be released. But after a week in which I didn't publish much because of the flu, I want to introduce you to some new bands. Gladly, I found a nice trio from Olympia, Washington with the name June Madrona.

Singer and songwriter Ross Cowman, melodica player Micah Ellison and flutist Danielle Chiero form the latest line-up of  June Madrona. Because of this new line-up their fourth and new album "Battleground" sounds different from for example "The Winged Life" from 2006. Next to Ross Cowman the band consisted then of a  cellist, harpist and banjo player. The CDs from June Madrona are released by the small local label Bicycle Records. In spite the different instruments the songs from Ross are always very recognisable. Nice, simple and honest pop songs about mental health, the position of men and women and relationships.
