It doesn't happen often that I write about a 'famous band' in my indieblog. Most bands and solo musicians I review are completely unknown. Most of the bands are even unknown to most fans of indie music. This is probably because a large percentage of these unknown bands have just released their first album. The bands can't be famous yet.
Nada Surf isn't the most famous band in the world, but I suppose most readers of this blog will know this band from Brooklyn. Matthew Caws (guitar, vocals), Daniel Lorca (bass, vocals), Ira Elliot (drums, vocals) play together as a band since over fifteen years and the have even reached reasonably high positions in mainly the American and British charts. This started with their small hit "Popular" from their debut album "High/Low" from 1996. Of course this is not the reason why I like them, but it proves that Nada Surf have reached a certain position, which doesn't happen often to an indie band. They were contracted by the indie label Barsuk Records over five years ago and they released the albums "Let Go" (2002) and "The Weight Is A Gift" (2005) and they will also release the latest album "Lucky" in about two weeks. The European release will be with CitySlang. You can listen to all the beautiful songs from this album on the MySpace-page from Nada Surf, but I you want to download something, there's the excellent first track of the album below.
