You can find a lot of beautiful and interesting things in our Dutch culture, but I think that folk music isn't part of that. I have to admit that I'm not so familiar with Dutch folk music and I only know some sea shanteys, tearjerkers and of course clog dancing music, but I suppose that's not all. The songs I've heard, are less interesting than for instance American folk music. I've written about a lot of bands who make blues, bluegrass, country, folk or the modern name Americana in this blog. Spiritual Family Reunion is another nice band from this genre.
I haven't found a lot of information about this band. They are from the southern part of Nashville, Tennessee and the band is formed by a large number of musicians around songwriter, piano player, guitarist, harmonica player and flutist Patty LeMay. Patty started playing the piano when she was fourteen, first just classical music but she also liked the music of Bob Dylan, Neil Young, Hank Williams sr and others. Some musicians who play with Spiritual Family Reunion are Paul Niehaus, Ben Smythe, Casey Sanders, Mason Vickery, William Tyler, Loney Hutchins and Zach Setchfield. All musicians who are more interested in the song than the singer.
"Goodbye Ceremony" is the debut album from Spiritual Family Reunion and the band has worked on this album since 2005. The CD will be released in a month at Tract Records and with this album we have another beautiful addition to our collection of Americana.
