I live quiet a long way from the busy Randstad (the west of the Netherlands) in a small town with 10.000 inhabitants. That's why I am not able to see many concerts. That's a pity. I could visit Utrecht or Amsterdam a few times a year to go to some co concerts. But I can only do that in the weekend and I'm usually busy in and around the house then and besides, I also like to take it easy on Saturday and Sunday. Or I could visit a city like New York again. I've seen the most important tourist attractions the first time I visited that city. I would like to go there again and look for some nice bands and concerts. A concert from The Shondes from Brooklyn for instance.
'Shondes' is yiddish for 'shame' (in Dutch 'schande') and the name also shows us that the members have Jewish backgrounds. You can hear this when you listen to their melodic rock songs, and this is mostly because of the violin. According to their biografy they are also influenced by classical music, feminist punk and queercore. The Shondes is formed by Temim Fruchter (drums and vocals), Louisa Solomon (bass and vocals), Ian Brannigan (guitar) and Elijah Oberman (violin and vocals). Their debut album "The Red Sea" has been released by the band this week and the eleven songs on this record remind me a bit of Sleater-Kinney and Patti Smith. With violin of course! The best songs are "Winter", "At the Water" and the song below.
