There are a lot of (indie) bands who are in fact just one constant member. For instance the last three bands I reviewed in this blog: June Madrona, The Out_Circuit and Myracle Brah are actually projects of one musician. They all use other musicians to play on the albums and that's why they are also bands. The same goes for Xiu Xiu, a band which I have come across a lot of times since I'm searching the internet.
The band was founded in 2000 in San Francisco by Jamie Stewart and at the moment he's assisted by Caralee McElroy and Ches Smith.
The experimental post-punk/noise-rock of Xiu Xiu appeared on record for the first time on their debut "Knife Play" from 2002. After that they released a large number of singles, EPs and the albums "A Promise", "Fabulous Muscles", "La Forêt" and "The Air Force". Their new album is called "Women As Lovers" and it will be released early next year on Kill Rock Stars. The earlier albums were alle released on the sister label of KRS called 5 Rue Christine. Most people have to get used to the music of Xiu Xiu and that's why you'll find four songs below. The first is from the new CD, number two is from "The Air Force", number three from "La Forêt" and the last one from "Fabulous Muscles".
